First, during the class, I introduce myself by saying my name, what country I am from then ask the student to introduce himself and through it, I can see at what level the student is at, but mostly right now because of the coronavirus pandemic it's safer to teach online than in the presence of a classroom.
When I teach children I mostly use pupets, games, props, tpr's, flash cards, songs, also playing games while they are learning.
With tenagers or adults most of them tell me they have a B2 or C1 level in English language, so regulary I ask very simple questions as an example.
What is your name; where are you from, I also add the Ford method to see how they would react.
F: Family questions. O: Ocupation questions. R; Requeation questions. D: Questions of dreams.
F. How many members in your family? Who is the oldest and who is the youngest, etc in family members.
O. What do you do for a living? How long have you've been working their? What do they build their?, etc.
Just by listening to their speaking or conjugating I can noticess what level they are, but I will never ashme them. I will only tell the student we need to start here moreless because you need to do better in your conjugation as an example, etc.
